Improve Vertical
Who would have thought all those years ago when someone first started tossing around a ball that basketball would grow into the major sport that it has. Now it is a multimillion dollar a year industry and one that helps those who live in cities to get some exercise. For those people who play basketball there are no doubt some things that you would like to improve upon to make your game the best it can be. To improve vertical jumps would be a great way to help you in your game to become someone that people want on their teams.
When you have a good vertical jump it will make a difference as to whether you are a shooter, one who has the ability to rise above the rest and grab the rebounds, block a shot or make that slam dunk. There are always ways that you can improve vertical jumps such as working on the muscles that are key for that. Those muscles are of course the leg muscles, with the calves being the ones that give you the most height.
Jump rope is not only something that you used in gym class because the teacher said to but it can also be a great way to improve vertical jumps. Jump rope will help you to build up your calves and help them to bring you higher and higher off of the ground. You can jump rope slowly but also you can add some speed to it so that your muscles have to work even harder.
Another way to improve vertical jump would be to practice jumping. You want to start flatfooted and then jump as high as you can, making sure that you emphasize each muscle group that is being asked to work. Don’t just jump up and land back down. Jump up starting with a push way down in your toes. Then start working the calf muscles and then have your toes be the last push before you come off of the ground. Practice makes perfect and this is no different.
Jogging is another great way to work your muscles. Not only will jogging help you to improve your leg strength but it will also work to give you an overall body transformation. It will work your core muscles, all of your leg muscles and even the muscles in your arms if you work them correctly when jogging. But most importantly it will help you to build up your lungs. Having a good set of lungs will allow your body to bring in the air needed to help your muscles work correctly without cramping up. Oxygen is needed for your muscles to work as they should and having a good set of lungs is a great way to help with that.
Vertical leaps are more than just hopping up and down and hoping you get it right. It is toning your muscles so that they work together perfectly to give you the results you desire.
