Jumping Higher

Basketball has made its way into the hearts of many homes, leaving some obsessed with the game once the season starts. Odds are that once you love watching the game you will want to learn how to play the game. To play basketball will require you to learn a few different skills, gain a few muscles and can lead to a wonderful exercise program. Ever notice that there are few overweight men on the NBA teams? But for those who want to play at home, something they always need to work on is jumping higher. Whether you need to jump higher to catch the rebound or to make that ever-hopeful slam-dunk, to be able to jump higher can truly help you with your game.

Rebounding is a very important part of the game as that can help you to acquire the ball in the last crunch of the game. But to be able to get the ball above everyone else you will find out that jumping higher can make or break your chance of winning the game. To be able to rebound effectively you will have to do some exercises that work the different muscle groups, mainly the leg muscles.

There are the obvious leg exercises you can do that will work your calves and thighs that are done in weight rooms across the world. But something else that you can do are simple and general exercises that can be done by anyone and usually anywhere. Such as right now you are no doubt sitting and reading this article. While you are sitting and reading this article, stick your legs straight out in front of you flex your toes. Pull your toes back to you and then point them away from you. You can also add ankle weights, which can be worn under your clothes, that will help to build your calf muscles.

Another simple exercise that can be done is to stand on the floor and then rise up onto your toes, holding the pose for a second or two. After you do about ten sets of one hundred you will feel a nice burn in your calf muscles. Maybe not right then and there but no doubt the next day. Having good, strong calf muscles will make jumping higher far easier than those who have weak muscles.

Jogging is a great way to not only work your leg muscles but also to achieve an overall workout. Jogging will help you to build your lungs so that they can hold plenty of air, it will help to tone your diaphragm and also your buttocks. But you can not just go for a two-mile jog without starting off easy. You will need to jog slow or even power walk so that you don't end up with sore muscles making you rethink how concerned you are with jumping higher.

Something that you might not think of to help you build your leg muscles is something that you no doubt did a lot when you were a kid. Skipping. Skipping is a great way to work your leg muscles and help you to get higher off the ground. If you are worried about what people will think, skip in a place that no one will see you. But if you try skipping don't just skip like a little school girl, make sure that your toes push your as high up as they can every time that you come off the ground. You will be amazed at the progress you will make.

You see, jumping higher is something that can easily be done if you just take the time to do a few simple exercises.
